NYCR EXCLUSIVE: NYGOP DONORS UNKNOWINGLY SUPPORTING GAY PRIDE GROUPS

Almost three months prior to the bitter debate about giving the Log Cabin Republicans (LCRs) a seat on the NYGOP Executive Committee, the NYGOP State Committee was already serving as their exclusive source of funding, the NYCR has learned.

In the first six months of 2005, the NYGOP contributed $2500 to the organization's statewide PAC, which records show to be the LCRs' only income during that time period. Unbeknownst to the countless Republican donors who support the NYGOP, much of this money was, in turn, contributed to various gay pride organizations.

The NYGOP's support for the LCRs, who refused to endorse President Bush for re-election and are currently working to unseat at least one New York Republican Congresscritter, has been cited as one of the many instances of the party alienating its base in a desperate effort to "broaden" it.
